Art in the Community
The greater Long Branch area has a number of murals, sculptures, and other public art displays.
"Sewing the Fabric of Our COmmunity"
Located at the intersection of Flower Avenue and Piney Branch Road, "Sewing the Fabric of Our Community" is perhaps the most prominent mural in the Long Branch area. Discover Long Branch noted that the mural "depicts the community of Long Branch through the faces and work of its residents. This mural also displays different fabrics representative of the varied ethnicities living in Long Branch." This mural was designed and painted by Kate Deciccio and Rose Jaffe.
Domer @ FLower
Located at the corner of Domer Ave. and Flower Ave., this local art installation showcases a handful of the different countries of origin of residents in the Long Branch / Garland neighborhoods.
Dan Reed at JustUpThePike noted that "Flower Dreams was designed and created inside the Montgomery County Correctional Facility during workshops with Project Youth ArtReach, a program of Class Acts Arts. Under the guidance of professional artists, Peter Krsko and Alicia Cosnahan, a core group of 10 young male inmates contributed their efforts as a means of giving back to the community.
The list of groups involved to make this happen is long and includes: Class Acts Arts, Long Branch Business League, Finmarc Management, Montgomery Housing Partnership, Flower Theater Project, Impact Silver Spring, Arts on the Block, Howard Connelly Studio, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Foundation of Montgomery County."
